Confidentiality, Privacy,Safeguarding & Data Protection Policy

This notice provides a summary of Counselling Solutions’ Confidentiality, Safeguarding and Data Protection Policy. It may be updated periodically to reflect best practice and any changes in relevant legislation.

Professional Standards
All therapists work in accordance with the ethical codes of their professional bodies (e.g., BACP, PTUK) and follow recognised professional and legal guidelines. Therapists also receive regular clinical supervision to support safe and effective practice.

Confidentiality
Information shared during therapy sessions is treated as confidential and will not be disclosed to third parties without your knowledge or consent. Confidentiality may be broken in the following circumstances:

  • Serious risk of harm to yourself or others

  • Safeguarding concerns involving a child or vulnerable adult

  • Disclosure required by law or court order

 

Where possible, clients will be informed before any information is shared.

Privacy and Data Protection
Counselling Solutions respects your privacy and is committed to protecting personal information. Personal data collected will:

  • Be stored securely

  • Only be accessed by authorised personnel

  • Be used solely for the purpose of providing therapeutic services

 

All information is handled in accordance with UK Data Protection legislation (GDPR). Clients have the right to request access to personal information held about them.

Record Keeping
Therapists may record brief session notes to support ongoing therapeutic work. These records are kept securely, retained for seven years and then safely destroyed.

Safeguarding
Counselling Solutions is committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. If there are concerns about abuse, neglect, or serious risk of harm, information may be shared with appropriate safeguarding agencies in line with legal and professional responsibilities.

Client Responsibility
Clients are encouraged to raise any questions or concerns about therapy, confidentiality, or safeguarding with their therapist. By engaging in therapy, clients acknowledge that they understand the limits of confidentiality and the safeguarding responsibilities outlined in this policy.

Policy Review
This policy is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains compliant with current legislation, professional guidance, and best practice in counselling and psychotherapy. Clients are encouraged to check this page periodically for any updates to the Privacy Policy. Continued use of this site following any changes will indicate acceptance of those changes.
