About Us

Counselling Solutions was founded by Director of Services Karen O’Neill to facilitate the emotional well being of children, adolescents, adults and families. 

Karen is a Counsellor/Psychotherapist (MBACP Accredited), Certified Play Therapist (PTUK Accredited), Clinical Supervisor and Trainer.  She has trained as a Filial Therapist and in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP); both trainings were in USA.  

Karen has a Certificate in Education and has delivered counselling and play therapy training to professionals and front line staff throughout the UK and overseas including Ireland, Malta, Morocco, Australia and Ethiopia.

She has worked as a Counsellor and Play Therapist in primary and secondary schools, for GP Surgeries, local Charities and for Social Care in Essex and Suffolk. 

Karen was part of the team of Senior Trainers and Clinical Therapists who delivered Filial Coaching/Mentoring courses in Ethiopia to Health Extension Workers and community Volunteers.  This programme was designed by Play Therapy International specifically for the needs of severely malnourished children in conjunction with UNICEF Ethiopia.  The aim was to increase the survival rate and physical growth of malnourished children admitted within Therapeutic Feeding Programmes, through complementing emergency nutrition interventions with emotional and physical stimulations for children and their carers.
