About Us

Karen founded Counselling Solutions to enhance the emotional well-being of adults, children and families by providing qualified support and delivering professional training based on the very latest research.  She has over twenty years of experience in the field of psychotherapy and before this was a general nurse.  Her private practice is in Colchester, Essex, where she offers psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, couples and families, clinical supervision and consultancy work. 

After fifteen years in nursing, Karen moved into the field of counselling and psychotherapy with an initial two years programme of study in Humanistic Person-centred counselling.  This formed the foundation of an integrative therapeutic model, supported by an MA in Practice Based Play Therapy: “Beyond Words: An Exploration of Silence Within the Therapeutic Dyad’, with further training in the creative arts, trauma and attachment.

Karen is a BACP Senior Accredited Therapist, Accredited Play Therapist and Senior Supervisor with PTUK  She draws upon a range of therapeutic modalities, interventions and strategies to deliver a tailored and effective service to individuals and families.

She has trained in EMDR and Somatic Trauma Therapy, the basis of much of her clinical work.  Karen has a specialist interest and experiences in the field of Attachment and Trauma.

In addition, she has a Certificate in Education delivering counselling and play therapy training to professionals and front line staff throughout the UK and overseas including; Australia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur, Malta, Morocco.
