Couple Therapy

Couple Therapy

Sometimes when you are hurting or your relationship feels quite shaky, counselling can provide the much needed help and support.

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) is an attachment-based collaborative approach, where couples learn to recognise their habitual negative patterns of ‘blame-distance’ or ‘attack-withdraw’ and are able to change them into a safe and loving way of relating to each other.

EFT uses a series of steps to work towards couples understanding and resolving conflict and distress through actively engaging with each other with empathy and shared vulnerability.

Clear communication is encouraged between the couple to begin to understand and resolve their conflict and distress.  The aim of couple therapy is to bring the couple to a place where they can soften criticism and blame by engaging with each other rather than withdrawing.  As trust grows, negative patterns can be transformed creating a more secure connection.
