Clinical Supervision

Clinical Supervision

Clinical supervision is educative, supportive and managerial.  It is an essential part of working therapeutically with clients, whether they are adults or children.  It is an ethical requirement of the BACP and PTUK as-well as other professional bodies, agencies and organisations.

Clinical Supervision, as opposed to line management supervision offers a regular space to explore and understand relationship dynamics with clients, unfolding transference and counter-transference material.

The role of a Clinical Supervisor is to facilitate a collaborative exploration of issues that arise during the therapist's clinical work. These may be matters of therapeutic technique, therapeutic relationships, difficult problems, ethical dilemmas, or issues that impact personally upon the therapist as a result of the therapeutic process.

Karen is a qualified supervisor and provides supervision to student and qualified counsellors, creative therapists and play therapists on both an individual and group basis.  In addition, she can provide agency clinical supervision for counselling organisations, health, social care and education professionals.

Her supervision is integrative and incorporates the use of creative expression to enable a constructive reflection of client work; adults, children, families, counselling practice and the counselling process.

Karen adheres to the Ethical Framework for Counselling Professions to deal with the varied ethical dilemmas that can arise within the counselling relationship.  She can provide clinical supervision in person, via Skype or telephone; particularly if distance is an issue.

The supervision journey is an ongoing one and it is important to choose the right supervisor.   An initial appointment can be booked to meet with Karen to discuss your supervision needs and the supervision process.  If you decide that Karen is the right person for you, then regular appointments can be arranged.
